Internship at IKEA

The reason for visiting Japan was an 8 weeks internship at the Shin Misato IKEA store. We believe that going abroad gives you opportunities you never would have gotten at home.   We have met a lot of people in various positions within IKEA and our personal development is going strong. We feel like we are doing a good job as ambassadors and we hope to fulfill our duties here. And with a bit of luck good fortune, also help out within other departments. This is a win-win situation for everybody involved!
IKEA is really swedish ;) Most japanese people we come by can say a couple of swedish words. They are better in swedish than we are in japanese...
It has already been 2 weeks and we are starting to get to know the japanese IKEA-life, and we sure like it! The team that is teaching us everything is a great role model, so we think we are really lucky to be able to be a part of this.

In the mornings we are helping out to do maintenance. Anna says that the Japanese customers are more careful with the displays and packages compared to Sweden. It is so much cleaner here in a way, so you really have the time to learn the proper way.
Besides helping out we have a list with things we do entirely by ourselves. Things like changing a display and showing function whit props. Afterwards we always get feedback. And we learn more and more about the difference between our countries.

Every product in IKEA has a Swedish name, and we can read Swedish words everywhere. The customer restaurant is serving the same food as in IKEA at home, accept for 2 things. Here they have the princessbakelse with lingon berry jam and a blue and yellow sponge cake.

In the canteen they serve Japanese food. You get 3 choices of pasta or noodles plus a buffet or you can buy microwave foods in the vending machine.
This is an advanced cash register. Put your tray or plate on the white square. Automatically it will register your food. After that you pay with your card! Taahdaaa!

You can find vending machines all through the store (2 of them in the canteen) with a big variety of cold drinks.

The locks on the lockers has cute pendants for identifications. Anna ha a poodle and Louisa a Totoro.
